Back To The “Stone Age” – Before I Had A Newsletter

When I first started 9 years ago as a coach, I had no people on my email newsletter list. It was a struggle to go out and get clients. And every month, it felt like I was starting over again, I had no marketing momentum built up in my business.

A marketing mentor gave me a good piece of advice, “Why don’t you start a newsletter?”

So I did.

Into The Newsletter “Middle Ages”

I started a newsletter, I did everything I could to add new people to my list, and gradually grew my list from zero to 2,000 people.

But something magical happened when my email newsletter list got past the 2,000 person mark.

On a regular basis, people would email me asking about my services, taking me up on my coaching consultation offer (and then hiring me).

This was completely unsolicited! These were people who subscribed to my newsletter and enjoyed the free content I was sharing.  I was on cloud 9.

And not only did I start getting consistent new business, the free content I was sharing with my newsletter list was establishing my credibility as someone who could help them solve a problem and get to a result they really wanted in their business or their life.

It felt like every time I sent out a newsletter, it generated some activity, engagement and new business.

Can you imagine this? Every time you send out an email, it generates excitement and new business with your audience. You will love it!

All Kinds Of Good Things Started Happening

• People started emailing me asking for consultations (and then hired me)
• People started asking me about my services
• When I did my first group workshop, I was able to sell it out thanks to my list
• It was easier to land partners since I had a list
• It felt really good to know that something that I wrote is going to be seen by a lot of people, and that it’s going to impact them

Now Fast Forward To My List Building “Renaissance”

Once I had grown my list to 2,000 people, I set an intention to double it.
And I set an intention to understand the “art and science” of list building.

But things went much better than I had planned.

In the past 2 years, I’ve been able to grow my list from 2,000 to 18,000 amazing people that I’m totally psyched to be in communication with!
